एतेन त्वं प्रकारेण महतो भेत्स्यसे गणान् ॥
महावेग इवोद्धूतो मातरिश्वा बलाहकान् ॥
तेषाम् अग्रप्रदायी स्याः कल्योत्थायी प्रियंवदः ॥
ते त्वां प्रियं करिष्यन्ति पुरो धास्यन्ति च ध्रुवम् ॥
यदैव शत्रुर् जानीयात् सपत्नं त्यक्तजीवितम् ॥
तदैवास्माद् उद्विजते सर्पाद् वेश्मगताद् इव ॥
तं विदित्वा पराक्रान्तं वशे न कुरुते यदि ॥
निर्वादैर् निर्वदेद् एनम् अन्ततस् तद् भविष्यति ॥
निर्वादाद् आस्पदं लब्ध्वा धनवृद्धिर् भविष्यति ॥
धनवन्तं हि मित्राणि भजन्ते चाश्रयन्ति च ॥

"In this way you will break apart great hosts, as a mighty wind scatters the clouds. Be the one who gives first, who rises early, and who speaks pleasantly; then they will come to love you and will surely place you at their head. The moment an enemy learns that his rival has given up his life, he is at once afraid of him, as of a snake that has entered the house. If, having recognized him as valiant, the enemy does not bring him under his control, then let him win him over through negotiation — in the end that is how it will be. From negotiation, once a footing is gained, growth of wealth will follow; for friends attach themselves to the wealthy man, seek him out, and rely upon him."
