संजय उवाच
कर्णस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा केशवः परवीरहा ॥
उवाच प्रहसन् वाक्यं स्मितपूर्वम् इदं तदा ॥
अपि त्वां न तपेत् कर्ण राज्यलाभोपपादना ॥
मया दत्तां हि पृथिवीं न प्रशासितुम् इच्छसि ॥
ध्रुवो जयः पाण्डवानाम् इतीदं; न संशयः कश् चन विद्यते ऽत्र ॥
जयध्वजो दृश्यते पाण्डवस्य; समुच्छ्रितो वानरराज उग्रः ॥
दिव्या माया विहिता भौवनेन; समुच्छ्रिता इन्द्रकेतुप्रकाशा ॥
दिव्यानि भूतानि भयावहानि; दृश्यन्ति चैवात्र भयानकानि ॥
न सज्जते शैलवनस्पतिभ्य; ऊर्ध्वं तिर्यग् योजनमात्ररूपः ॥
श्रीमान् ध्वजः कर्ण धनंजयस्य; समुच्छ्रितः पावकतुल्यरूपः ॥

karṇasya vacanaṃ śrutvā keśavaḥ paravīrahā ||
uvāca prahasan vākyaṃ smitapūrvam idaṃ tadā ||
api tvāṃ na tapet karṇa rājyalābhopapādanā ||
mayā dattāṃ hi pṛthivīṃ na praśāsitum icchasi ||
dhruvo jayaḥ pāṇḍavānām itīdaṃ; na saṃśayaḥ kaś cana vidyate 'tra ||
jayadhvajo dṛśyate pāṇḍavasya; samucchrito vānararāja ugraḥ ||
divyā māyā vihitā bhauvanena; samucchritā indraketuprakāśā ||
divyāni bhūtāni bhayāvahāni; dṛśyanti caivātra bhayānakāni ||
na sajjate śailavanaspatibhya; ūrdhvaṃ tiryag yojanamātrarūpaḥ ||
śrīmān dhvajaḥ karṇa dhanaṃjayasya; samucchritaḥ pāvakatulyarūpaḥ ||
Sanjaya said: Having heard Karna's words, Keshava, slayer of enemy heroes, smiled, and then, with a smile, spoke these words: 'Does it not torment you, O Karna, that you refuse the chance to gain a kingdom? For you do not wish to rule the whole earth that I offer you. The victory of the Pandavas is certain; there is no doubt of it here. The victorious banner of the son of Pandu can be seen: the fierce king of monkeys stands raised on high. The divine maya wrought by Bhuvana is lifted up and shines like Indra's banner; here divine and terrible beings, bringing fear, are seen. The glorious standard of Dhananjaya, fire-like in form, rises a yojana in height and breadth, yet does not catch on mountains or trees.'
