译文

Bhishma said: 'When the messenger spoke thus to Drupada, O king, his speech did not come forth, as though he were a thief caught in the act. He made a strenuous effort — through kinship ties, conciliatory words, and sweet-spoken envoys — to convey that this was not so. Then that king, once he had reliably learned that the daughter of the Panchala king was indeed a girl, set out in haste once more. Then he sent to his friends of measureless might a report of the deception concerning his daughter, as he had learned it from the words of the nurses. Then the best of kings, having gathered his forces, O Bharata, resolved to march against Drupada.'
