"Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, buddhi, and ego — this is My prakriti, divided eightfold. This is the lower nature; but know My other, higher nature, O mighty-armed one: it has become the living beings, and by it this world is sustained. Understand that all beings have these natures as their womb. I am the source and the dissolution of the whole universe. There is nothing higher than Me, O Dhananjaya; all this is strung upon Me, as rows of pearls upon a thread."

The world is described as two energies of Krishna: the lower, forming the field of matter, and the higher, manifest as the living beings. Hence everything that exists depends on Him as pearls depend on the thread.
