पाण्डवानाम् अनीकानि बभञ्जुः स्म पुनः पुनः ॥
तथैव भीमसेनो ऽपि राक्षसश् च घटोत्कचः ॥
सात्यकिश् चेकितानश् च द्रौपदेयाश् च भारत ॥
तावकांस् तव पुत्रांश् च सहितान् सर्वराजभिः ॥
द्रावयाम् आसुर् आजौ ते त्रिदशा दानवान् इव ॥
तथा ते समरे ऽन्योन्यं निघ्नन्तः क्षत्रियर्षभाः ॥
रक्तोक्षिता घोररूपा विरेजुर् दानवा इव ॥
विनिर्जित्य रिपून् वीराः सेनयोर् उभयोर् अपि ॥
व्यदृश्यन्त महामात्रा ग्रहा इव नभस्तले ॥
ततो रथसहस्रेण पुत्रो दुर्योधनस् तव ॥
अभ्ययात् पाण्डवान् युद्धे राक्षसं च घटोत्कचम् ॥
तथैव पाण्डवाः सर्वे महत्या सेनया सह ॥

किरीटी तु ययौ क्रुद्धः समर्थान् पार्थिवोत्तमान् ॥

ततः प्रववृते भूयः संग्रामो लोमहर्षणः ॥
तावकानां परेषां च समरे विजिगीषताम् ॥

raktokṣitā ghorarūpā virejur dānavā iva ||
vinirjitya ripūn vīrāḥ senayor ubhayor api ||
vyadṛśyanta mahāmātrā grahā iva nabhastale ||
tato rathasahasreṇa putro duryodhanas tava ||
abhyayāt pāṇḍavān yuddhe rākṣasaṃ ca ghaṭotkacam ||
tathaiva pāṇḍavāḥ sarve mahatyā senayā saha ||
droṇabhīṣmau raṇe śūrau pratyudyayur ariṃdamau ||
kirīṭī tu yayau kruddhaḥ samarthān pārthivottamān ||
ārjuniḥ sātyakiś caiva yayatuḥ saubalaṃ balam ||
tataḥ pravavṛte bhūyaḥ saṃgrāmo lomaharṣaṇaḥ ||
tāvakānāṃ pareṣāṃ ca samare vijigīṣatām ||
Then Drona, Bhishma, Saindhava Jayadratha, Purumitra, Vikarna, and Shakuni, son of Subala — these warriors, hard to withstand in battle and mighty as lions — broke the ranks of the Pandavas again and again. Just so Bhimasena, the rakshasa Ghatotkacha, Satyaki, Chekitana, and the sons of Draupadi, O Bharata, put to flight your warriors and your sons together with all the kings, as the gods put the danavas to flight. Thus these bulls among kshatriyas, slaying one another in battle, crimsoned with blood and terrible in form, shone like danavas. The heroes of both armies, having overcome their foes, were seen as great commanders, like planets in the sky. Then your son Duryodhana, with a thousand chariots, advanced in battle against the Pandavas and against the rakshasa Ghatotkacha. So too all the Pandavas, together with a great army, went out to meet Drona and Bhishma, those two heroic subduers of enemies, in battle. Kiritin, in wrath, advanced against the mighty, foremost kings, while the son of Arjuna and Satyaki advanced against the army of Saubala. Then once more the hair-raising battle broke out afresh, between your men and the enemy, both sides seeking victory in the fight.
