संजय उवाच
ततस् ते पार्थिवाः क्रुद्धाः फल्गुनं वीक्ष्य संयुगे ॥
रथैर् अनेकसाहस्रैः समन्तात् पर्यवारयन् ॥
अथैनं रथवृन्देन कोष्टकीकृत्य भारत ॥
शरैः सुबहुसाहस्रैः समन्ताद् अभ्यवारयन् ॥
शक्तीश् च विमलास् तीक्ष्णा गदाश् च परिघैः सह ॥
प्रासान् परश्वधांश् चैव मुद्गरान् मुसलान् अपि ॥
चिक्षिपुः समरे क्रुद्धाः फल्गुनस्य रथं प्रति ॥
शस्त्राणाम् अथ तां वृष्टिं शलभानाम् इवायतिम् ॥
रुरोध सर्वतः पार्थः शरैः कनकभूषणैः ॥
तत्र तल् लाघवं दृष्ट्वा बीभत्सोर् अतिमानुषम् ॥
देवदानवगन्धर्वाः पिशाचोरगराक्षसाः ॥
साधु साध्व् इति राजेन्द्र फल्गुनं प्रत्यपूजयन् ॥

tatas te pārthivāḥ kruddhāḥ phalgunaṃ vīkṣya saṃyuge ||
rathair anekasāhasraiḥ samantāt paryavārayan ||
athainaṃ rathavṛndena koṣṭakīkṛtya bhārata ||
śaraiḥ subahusāhasraiḥ samantād abhyavārayan ||
śaktīś ca vimalās tīkṣṇā gadāś ca parighaiḥ saha ||
prāsān paraśvadhāṃś caiva mudgarān musalān api ||
cikṣipuḥ samare kruddhāḥ phalgunasya rathaṃ prati ||
śastrāṇām atha tāṃ vṛṣṭiṃ śalabhānām ivāyatim ||
rurodha sarvataḥ pārthaḥ śaraiḥ kanakabhūṣaṇaiḥ ||
tatra tal lāghavaṃ dṛṣṭvā bībhatsor atimānuṣam ||
devadānavagandharvāḥ piśācoragarākṣasāḥ ||
sādhu sādhv iti rājendra phalgunaṃ pratyapūjayan ||
Sanjaya said: "Then the enraged kings, seeing Phalguna in battle, surrounded him from all sides with many thousands of chariots. Having encircled him in a ring of chariot ranks, O Bharata, they showered him with many thousands of arrows from every side. In their fury they hurled at Phalguna's chariot shining sharp shaktis, maces together with parighas, spears, axes, hammers, and musalas. But Partha repelled this downpour of weapons, descending like locusts, from every side with gold-adorned arrows. Seeing there the superhuman lightness of Bibhatsu, the gods, danavas, gandharvas, pishachas, serpents, and rakshasas honored Phalguna with the words: 'Well done! Well done!', O lord of kings."
