译文

Sanjaya said: "Having received leave, the Parthas bowed to the great-souled Bhishma, grandsire of the Kurus, and set out for their own camp. When the son of Ganga, already consecrated for the world beyond, had spoken thus, Arjuna, consumed by grief, said with embarrassment: 'How shall I fight, Madhava, against my teacher, the elder of our clan, the wise and experienced grandsire? In childhood, Vasudeva, when I played with my body smeared in dust, I sometimes treated this great one roughly. I, a mere boy, elder brother of Gada, would climb onto his lap and call him father — the father of my father, the great Pandu. And he would say to me in my childhood: \"I am not the father of your father, Bharata; I am your father.\" How then can I kill one who was such to me? Let him slay my army as much as he wishes, but I will not fight this great one. Will victory be mine, or death, Krishna — what do you think?'"
