Then Drona and the Magadhan maharatha, sent by Duryodhana, approached the place where Partha and the Pandava Bhimasena, the two maharathas, were destroying the great army of the Kurus. The young Jayatsena, in battle, pierced the terribly armed Bhima with eight sharp arrows, O bull of the Bharatas. Bhima, having wounded him with ten arrows and then seven more, felled his charioteer from the chariot-seat with a bhalla arrow. Then the Magadhan king, before the eyes of the whole army, was carried off by his horses, which had gone wild and were fleeing in every direction. Drona, finding a favorable opening, pierced Bhimasena with sixty-five very sharp iron arrows. Bhima, renowned in battle, wounded his teacher, equal to a father, with nine bhalla arrows and sixty more, O Bharata. Arjuna, having wounded Susharman with a mass of iron arrows, scattered his army as the wind scatters great clouds. Then Bhishma, King Duryodhana, Saubala, and Brihadbala, in fury, charged upon Bhimasena and Dhananjaya. And likewise the valiant Pandavas, together with Dhrishtadyumna, son of Prishata, charged in battle upon Bhishma, who was like Antaka with gaping jaws.'

Drona and Jayatsena try to hold the sector where Bhima and Arjuna are breaking the Kaurava strength. But their intervention only hastens the general converging of both sides around Bhishma.
