译文
[Bhishma:] As Duryodhana, dear one, together with his kinsfolk, clan and relatives [is a support to the Kauravas], so too be a refuge for all the Kauravas. With a benign word I bless you: go, fight the enemies; lead the Kurus in battle, secure victory for Duryodhana.

Bhishma sets Karna on equal footing with Duryodhana as a pillar of the clan — and thereby lifts from him the stigma of 'son of a charioteer,' exalting him by worth, not by birth. The blessing 'go, fight' is given not out of enmity toward the Pandavas but out of love for duty: Bhishma, who himself knows on whose side the truth lies, nonetheless blesses a loyal man to carry out his kshatriya duty to the end. Here appears the complexity of the dharma of war: to bless a warrior for honorable battle is not the same as to approve the cause for which he fights. The verse teaches that a man's worth is measured by valor and loyalty, not by origin; and that a charge to fulfill one's duty bravely may be given even to one whose cause is doomed — for the warrior's honor lies in fidelity to duty itself.
