त्वदीयाश् च पलायन्ते मृगाः सिंहार्दिता इव ॥
स तु रणयशसाभिपूज्यमानः; पितृसुरचारणसिद्धयक्षसंघैः ॥
अवनितलगतैश् च भूतसंघैर्; अतिविबभौ हुतभुग् यथाज्यसिक्तः ॥
prekṣantas taṃ mahābāhuṃ rukmapuṅkhaiḥ samāvṛtam ||
tvadīyāś ca palāyante mṛgāḥ siṃhārditā iva ||
sa tu raṇayaśasābhipūjyamānaḥ; pitṛsuracāraṇasiddhayakṣasaṃghaiḥ ||
avanitalagataiś ca bhūtasaṃghair; ativibabhau hutabhug yathājyasiktaḥ ||
Beholding that mighty-armed one, enveloped in golden-feathered arrows, your warriors flee like deer driven by a lion. He, honored for his martial glory by hosts of ancestors, gods, charanas, siddhas and yakshas, and by hosts of earthly beings, shone forth immeasurably, like fire fed with clarified butter.

The boy's feat is honored not by men alone but by hosts of celestials -- ancestors, gods, siddhas, yakshas: all creation renders praise to his valor. And he himself, wounded yet triumphant, 'shone forth like fire fed with butter' -- his wounds did not quench but fanned his radiance. It is telling that earth and heaven together join in praise of a single boy. The verse teaches that true valor calls forth a response from all that exists -- earth and heaven alike applaud it; that trials and wounds do not extinguish but kindle the radiance of a great spirit, as oil kindles flame; and that Abhimanyu, at the height of this universal praise, presents the purest image of heroism -- a moment before the tradition turns this fire fed with butter into a funeral pyre, for the summit of his glory is also the eve of his death.
