ताम् अस्य वाचं देवाश् च ऋषयश् च महात्मनः ॥
सर्वसैन्यानि चाक्षुद्राः प्रहृष्टाः प्रत्यपूजयन् ॥
तत् संपूज्य वचो ऽक्रूरं सर्वसैन्यानि भारत ॥
मुहूर्तम् अस्वपन् राजञ् श्रान्तानि भरतर्षभ ॥
सा तु संप्राप्य विश्रामं ध्वजिनी तव भारत ॥
सुखम् आप्तवती वीरम् अर्जुनं प्रत्यपूजयत् ॥
त्वयि वेदास् तथास्त्राणि त्वयि बुद्धिपराक्रमौ ॥
धर्मस् त्वयि महाबाहो दया भूतेषु चानघ ॥

tat saṃpūjya vaco 'krūraṃ sarvasainyāni bhārata ||
muhūrtam asvapan rājañ śrāntāni bharatarṣabha ||
sā tu saṃprāpya viśrāmaṃ dhvajinī tava bhārata ||
sukham āptavatī vīram arjunaṃ pratyapūjayat ||
tvayi vedās tathāstrāṇi tvayi buddhiparākramau ||
dharmas tvayi mahābāho dayā bhūteṣu cānagha ||
That speech of his, the great-souled one's, the gods and the rishis, and all the noble-hearted armies, delighted, honored. Having honored that gentle word, all the armies, O Bharata, slept a while, O king, weary, O bull among the Bharatas. And your army, O Bharata, having gained rest and comfort, honored the hero Arjuna: ‘In you are the Vedas and the weapons; in you are wisdom and valor; in you is dharma, O mighty-armed one, and mercy toward all beings, O sinless one.’

Even the enemy army honors Arjuna for his merciful call: ‘in you is dharma and mercy toward all beings.’ It is significant that praise is offered by enemies — the highest recognition of nobility. The verse teaches that true virtue earns respect even from an adversary; and one who unites valor with compassion is honored by all — for mercy toward an enemy is the crown of a warrior's honor, and it shines brighter than any victory.
