译文

Tormented by arrows and spears, exhausted, stupefied by the night, barely conscious, straining all their limbs, the elephants and horses stood; the heroes with parched faces, with heads in beautiful earrings, and with other implements of war scattered everywhere, [the field] strewn with hosts of carrion-eaters, with the dead and the half-dead — there was no path there for chariots over the whole battlefield. When the wheels sank, the horses, having summoned their strength, somehow drew the chariots on, exhausted, trembling, tormented by arrows.
