अपसव्यं चकाराथ माद्रीपुत्रस् तवात्मजम् ॥
किरञ् शरशतैर् हृष्टस् तत्र नादो महान् अभूत् ॥
अपसव्यं कृतः संख्ये भ्रातृव्येनात्यमर्षिणा ॥
सो ऽमर्षितस् तम् अप्य् आजौ प्रतिचक्रे ऽपसव्यतः ॥
ततः प्रतिचिकीर्षन्तम् अपसव्यं तु ते सुतम् ॥
न्यवारयत तेजस्वी नकुलश् चित्रमार्गवित् ॥
सर्वतो विनिवार्यैनं शरजालेन पीडयन् ॥
विमुखं नकुलश् चक्रे तत् सैन्याः समपूजयन् ॥
तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति नकुलो बभाषे तनयं तव ॥
संस्मृत्य सर्वदुःखानि तव दुर्मन्त्रितेन च ॥

tataḥ praticikīrṣantam apasavyaṃ tu te sutam ||
nyavārayata tejasvī nakulaś citramārgavit ||
sarvato vinivāryainaṃ śarajālena pīḍayan ||
vimukhaṃ nakulaś cakre tat sainyāḥ samapūjayan ||
tiṣṭha tiṣṭheti nakulo babhāṣe tanayaṃ tava ||
saṃsmṛtya sarvaduḥkhāni tava durmantritena ca ||
Then the son of Madri [Nakula] went around your son on the left, scattering hundreds of arrows, exultant; a great cry arose there. Encircled on the left in battle by his exceedingly indignant cousin, he [Duryodhana], enraged, in turn encircled him from the left in the fight. Then, as he strove to encircle your son from the left in return, the radiant Nakula, knower of wondrous methods, restrained him. Repelling him from every side, harrying him with a net of arrows, Nakula turned him back; and the warriors praised this. "Stay, stay!" Nakula said to your son, recalling all his sorrows and your evil scheme.

The chapter closes with the duel of Nakula and Duryodhana, in which the avenger "recalls all sorrows and evil counsel" of his foe. It is telling that the battle is waged not by the hand alone, but by memory of old wrongs. The verse teaches that ancient injustices are not forgotten -- they awaken on the field of battle and guide the blow; and strife begun in malice reaps itself a hundredfold when the wronged, remembering everything, at last stand face to face with the one who wronged them.
