Here is a line for the sake of which this whole speech is worth reading: in every member, negation and affirmation stand side by side. «Eyeless — the eye everywhere»; «earless — the ear everywhere»; «handless — the hand everywhere». This is the answer to every list of negations discussed when reading Rudra-hṛdaya (31) and Yoga-kuṇḍalinī (3.35); and the answer is given not by us, but by the book itself.
What is negated is our own configuration: He has no eyes like the two a man has, and no hands like the two a man has. What is affirmed is action: He sees, hears, takes. The Śvetāśvatara says the same, in almost the same words: «without hands and feet He is swift and grasps; without eyes He sees; without ears He hears» (3.19).
Compare the Gītā: «His hands and feet are everywhere, His eyes, heads, and faces are everywhere, His ears are everywhere; He encompasses all» (13.14) — and there it adds: «devoid of all the senses, He shines by the properties of all the senses» (13.15). This coincidence is word for word and not accidental: the turn sarvataḥ-pāṇi-pādam is common property. And the conclusion from it is one, and deserves stating. Qualitylessness in these books nowhere means inaction. Every time negations are listed, a verb stands beside them; and this verb — sees, hears, takes, rules — is the verb of a person.
