नामधेयानुपूर्व्येण विद्धि जन्मक्रमं नृप ॥
सर्वे त्व् अतिरथाः शूराः सर्वे युद्धविशारदाः ॥
सर्वे वेदविदश् चैव राजशास्त्रेषु कोविदाः ॥
सर्वे संसर्गविद्यासु विद्याभिजनशोभिनः ॥
सर्वेषाम् अनुरूपाश् च कृता दारा महीपते ॥
धृतराष्ट्रेण समये समीक्ष्य विधिवत् तदा ॥

nāmadheyānupūrvyeṇa viddhi janmakramaṃ nṛpa ||
sarve tv atirathāḥ śūrāḥ sarve yuddhaviśāradāḥ ||
sarve vedavidaś caiva rājaśāstreṣu kovidāḥ ||
sarve saṃsargavidyāsu vidyābhijanaśobhinaḥ ||
sarveṣām anurūpāś ca kṛtā dārā mahīpate ||
dhṛtarāṣṭreṇa samaye samīkṣya vidhivat tadā ||

Translation

‘By the order of names, know also the order of birth, o king. All of them were superb warriors, heroes, all skilled in battle, all knowers of the Vedas and versed in the sciences of kingship, all accomplished in the arts of social conduct, resplendent with learning and noble birth. And for all of them Dhritarashtra, in due time, having considered everything according to rite, arranged fitting marriages, o lord of the earth.’
