"Partha is my brother, my friend, and my teacher, and to Janardana he is as his own self. For his sake the highest deed, hard to accomplish, is undertaken. In battle I shall beat back with my finest weapons every storm of his arrows, overpower him, and with the choicest shafts, like serpent-venom and fire, tear the head from his body, Rama. With a sharpened sword in the fight I shall by force sever his head from his body, and then slay all his companions, Duryodhana and all the Kurus. Let the kings of the earth, rejoicing in the battle, behold me here, weapon in hand, alone slaying the chief warriors of the Kurus, as the fire at the end of time consumes a vast forest. Kripa, Drona, Vikarna, and Karna will not be able to withstand the sharp arrows loosed by Pradyumna. I know the valor of your son: such is Karshni when he stands in battle. Samba with his own arms will crush Duhshasana together with his chariot and charioteer; for the son of Jambavati, fierce in battle, nothing is beyond his strength. By this same boy the army of the daitya Shambara was once suddenly routed; round-thighed, long-armed, and broad-shouldered, he struck it down in battle. As a man who enters the realm of Antaka at the time of death does not come back out, so what man, having entered the space between his arms in battle, would return alive? Vasudeva with nets of fiery arrows will burn Drona and Bhishma, those two great chariot-warriors, Somadatta with his sons, and all their armies. What in all the worlds, among all the gods, is beyond Krishna once he is armed, holding his finest arrows and his discus, unmatched in battle? Then Aniruddha, sword and shield in hand, will make this earth strewn with the beheaded Dhartarashtras, slain, as an altar at a sacrifice is strewn with kusha grass. Gada, Ulmuka, Bahuka, Bhanu, Shura, Nishatha, Kumara, Sarana, and Charudeshna, fierce in battle, will perform a deed worthy of their lineage. Let the gathered army of the chief warriors of the Vrishnis, Bhojas, and Andhakas slay the sons of Dhritarashtra in battle and win wide renown. Then let Abhimanyu rule the earth while the great-souled Yudhishthira, foremost upholder of dharma, completes the vow, as was declared at the dice game by the best of the Kurus. And once our arrows have conquered the enemy, the King of Dharma will possess the earth free of the Dhartarashtras and the charioteer's son. This is our most necessary and most glorious task."

Satyaki's speech shines with loyalty, yet it already carries an impatience with the law of time. Devotion must know how to do more than rush into battle -- it must also wait upon the will of the righteous king.
