त्वाम् अग्ने जलदान् आहुर् विद्युतश् च त्वम् एव हि ॥
दहन्ति सर्वभूतानि त्वत्तो निष्क्रम्य हायनाः ॥
त्वय्य् आपो निहिताः सर्वास् त्वयि सर्वम् इदं जगत् ॥
न ते ऽस्त्य् अविदितं किं चित् त्रिषु लोकेषु पावक ॥
स्वयोनिं भजते सर्वो विशस्वापो ऽविशङ्कितः ॥
अहं त्वां वर्धयिष्यामि ब्राह्मैर् मन्त्रैः सनातनैः ॥
शल्य उवाच
एवं स्तुतो हव्यवाहो भगवान् कविर् उत्तमः ॥
बृहस्पतिम् अथोवाच प्रीतिमान् वाक्यम् उत्तमम् ॥
दर्शयिष्यामि ते शक्रं सत्यम् एतद् ब्रवीमि ते ॥
प्रविश्यापस् ततो वह्निः ससमुद्राः सपल्वलाः ॥
आजगाम सरस् तच् च गूढो यत्र शतक्रतुः ॥
tvām agne jaladān āhur vidyutaś ca tvam eva hi ||
dahanti sarvabhūtāni tvatto niṣkramya hāyanāḥ ||
tvayy āpo nihitāḥ sarvās tvayi sarvam idaṃ jagat ||
na te 'sty aviditaṃ kiṃ cit triṣu lokeṣu pāvaka ||
svayoniṃ bhajate sarvo viśasvāpo 'viśaṅkitaḥ ||
ahaṃ tvāṃ vardhayiṣyāmi brāhmair mantraiḥ sanātanaiḥ ||
śalya uvāca
evaṃ stuto havyavāho bhagavān kavir uttamaḥ ||
bṛhaspatim athovāca prītimān vākyam uttamam ||
darśayiṣyāmi te śakraṃ satyam etad bravīmi te ||
praviśyāpas tato vahniḥ sasamudrāḥ sapalvalāḥ ||
ājagāma saras tac ca gūḍho yatra śatakratuḥ ||
The wise call you one with the clouds and the lightning; the flame issuing from you sustains all beings. All the waters are gathered in you; so too is this whole world. For you, O purifier, there is nothing unknown in the three worlds. Every being turns with favor to its own progenitor; you shall enter the waters without fear. I shall make you strong with the eternal hymns of the Vedas.' Thus praised, the bearer of oblations, that finest of poets, greatly pleased, spoke words of praise to Brihaspati. And he said: 'I shall show you Indra. This I tell you truly.' Shalya continued: 'Then Agni entered the waters, including the seas and the tiny ponds, and came to that pool where, O best of the Bharata line, searching among the lotus flowers, he saw the king of the gods lying within the fibers of a lotus stalk. And soon returning, he told Brihaspati how Indra had taken refuge in the fibers of a lotus stalk, having assumed a tiny form.'
