Translation

That renowned man who does not grieve when calamity has already befallen him, who makes his effort with all his senses gathered, and who patiently bears suffering in its season, is without doubt the best of men, and all his enemies are vanquished. He who does not live vainly detached from hope, who does not befriend sinful people, who never insults another's wife, who never displays arrogance, who never steals, shows ingratitude, or gives himself to drink, is always happy. He is considered wise who never strives boastfully after the three aims of human endeavor, who speaks the truth when questioned, who does not quarrel even for the sake of friends, and who never grows angry even when slighted. Everywhere praised is he who bears no malice toward others but is kind to all, who, even when powerless, does not dispute with others, who does not speak arrogantly, and who forgets quarrels. That man who never assumes an arrogant air, who never censures others who praise themselves, and who never turns harsh words on others for having offended him, is beloved by all.
