अहं क्रतुर् अहं यज्ञः स्वधाहम् अहम् औषधम् ॥
मन्त्रो ऽहम् अहम् एवाज्यम् अहम् अग्निर् अहं हुतम् ॥

वेद्यं पवित्रम् ओंकार ऋक् साम यजुर् एव च ॥
गतिर् भर्ता प्रभुः साक्षी निवासः शरणं सुहृत् ॥
प्रभवः प्रलयः स्थानं निधानं बीजम् अव्ययम् ॥
तपाम्य् अहम् अहं वर्षं निगृह्णाम्य् उत्सृजामि च ॥
अमृतं चैव मृत्युश् च सद् असच् चाहम् अर्जुन ॥

'I am the Vedic rite, I am the sacrifice, I am the svadha, I am the healing herb; I am the mantra, I am the clarified butter, I am the fire, and I am the oblation offered. I am the father of this world, the mother, the sustainer, and the forefather; I am that which is to be known, the power of purification, the syllable Om, and also the Rig, the Sama, and the Yajur. I am the goal, the sustainer, the lord, the witness, the abode, the refuge, and the friend; I am the origin, the dissolution, the foundation, the treasury, and the imperishable seed. I give heat, I withhold and I send forth the rain; I am immortality and death, being and non-being, O Arjuna.'

This enumeration shows that Krishna is not one element of religion among many: He is the meaning of the rite, its materials, its recipient, and its fruit. Bhakti therefore does not negate sacred forms but restores them to their personal center.
