त्रैविद्या मां सोमपाः पूतपापा; यज्ञैर् इष्ट्वा स्वर्गतिं प्रार्थयन्ते ॥
ते पुण्यम् आसाद्य सुरेन्द्रलोकम्; अश्नन्ति दिव्यान् दिवि देवभोगान् ॥
ते तं भुक्त्वा स्वर्गलोकं विशालं; क्षीणे पुण्ये मर्त्यलोकं विशन्ति ॥
एवं त्रयीधर्मम् अनुप्रपन्ना; गतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते ॥
अनन्याश् चिन्तयन्तो मां ये जनाः पर्युपासते ॥
तेषां नित्याभियुक्तानां योगक्षेमं वहाम्य् अहम् ॥
ये ऽप्य् अन्यदेवता भक्ता यजन्ते श्रद्धयान्विताः ॥
ते ऽपि माम् एव कौन्तेय यजन्त्य् अविधिपूर्वकम् ॥
अहं हि सर्वयज्ञानां भोक्ता च प्रभुर् एव च ॥
न तु माम् अभिजानन्ति तत्त्वेनातश् च्यवन्ति ते ॥
यान्ति देवव्रता देवान् पितॄन् यान्ति पितृव्रताः ॥
भूतानि यान्ति भूतेज्या यान्ति मद्याजिनो ऽपि माम् ॥
traividyā māṃ somapāḥ pūtapāpā; yajñair iṣṭvā svargatiṃ prārthayante ||
te puṇyam āsādya surendralokam; aśnanti divyān divi devabhogān ||
te taṃ bhuktvā svargalokaṃ viśālaṃ; kṣīṇe puṇye martyalokaṃ viśanti ||
evaṃ trayīdharmam anuprapannā; gatāgataṃ kāmakāmā labhante ||
ananyāś cintayanto māṃ ye janāḥ paryupāsate ||
teṣāṃ nityābhiyuktānāṃ yogakṣemaṃ vahāmy aham ||
ye 'py anyadevatā bhaktā yajante śraddhayānvitāḥ ||
te 'pi mām eva kaunteya yajanty avidhipūrvakam ||
ahaṃ hi sarvayajñānāṃ bhoktā ca prabhur eva ca ||
na tu mām abhijānanti tattvenātaś cyavanti te ||
yānti devavratā devān pitṝn yānti pitṛvratāḥ ||
bhūtāni yānti bhūtejyā yānti madyājino 'pi mām ||
'The knowers of the three Vedas, drinkers of soma, purified of sin, having honored Me with sacrifices, desire the path to heaven. Having attained the blessed world of Indra, they enjoy divine pleasures in heaven; but having enjoyed the vast heavenly world, when their merit is exhausted, they enter the world of mortals. Thus those who follow the dharma of the three Vedas and seek desires obtain going and returning. But those who, without distraction, think of Me and worship Me completely, ever united with Me — their acquisition and preservation I bear. Even the devotees of other deities, who worship with faith, O son of Kunti, worship none but Me, though not in the proper way. For I am the recipient and the Lord of all sacrifices, but they do not know Me in truth, and therefore they fall away. Worshippers of the gods go to the gods, worshippers of the ancestors go to the ancestors, worshippers of the spirits go to the spirits, and My worshippers come to Me.'

Krishna distinguishes between the temporary fruit of ritual and personal surrender to Him. Even when a sacrifice is directed to other deities, its true recipient is He, but without knowledge of this truth, worship remains indirect and leads only to a limited goal.
