संश्रितं वापि यस् त्यक्त्वा साधुं तद्वचने रतम् ॥
न बिभर्ति नृशंसात्मा निन्दते चोपकारिणम् ॥
अर्हते प्रातिवेश्याय श्राद्धं यो न ददाति च ॥
अनर्हते च यो दद्याद् वृषलीपत्युर् एव च ॥
मद्यपो भिन्नमर्यादः कृतघ्नो भ्रातृनिन्दकः ॥
तेषां गतिम् इयां क्षिप्रं न चेद् धन्यां जयद्रथम् ॥
saṃśritaṃ vāpi yas tyaktvā sādhuṃ tadvacane ratam ||
na bibharti nṛśaṃsātmā nindate copakāriṇam ||
arhate prātiveśyāya śrāddhaṃ yo na dadāti ca ||
anarhate ca yo dadyād vṛṣalīpatyur eva ca ||
madyapo bhinnamaryādaḥ kṛtaghno bhrātṛnindakaḥ ||
teṣāṃ gatim iyāṃ kṣipraṃ na ced dhanyāṃ jayadratham ||
"...who, having forsaken the righteous man who sought his shelter and was obedient to his word, does not care for him, cruel-hearted, and reviles his benefactor; who gives no share of the shraddha to a worthy neighbor but gives it to the unworthy; and the fate of the husband of a shudra woman, of the drunkard, of the one who has trampled the foundations, of the ungrateful, of the one who defames his brother — may I soon receive their lot, should I not slay Jayadratha."

The list closes with sins against gratitude and faithfulness: 'nindate upakāriṇam,' 'reviles his benefactor,' 'kṛtaghnaḥ,' 'ungrateful,' 'saṃśritaṃ... tyaktvā na bibharti,' 'abandons the one who sought his shelter.' It is telling that the vow guarding the memory of the slain boy is sealed with a curse aimed precisely at ingratitude and betrayal of refuge — the very sins that are Jayadratha's own guilt. The self-imprecation ends with a clear resolution: 'na cet hanyāṃ jayadratham,' 'should I not slay him.' The verse teaches that the gravest sins are against those who trusted and showed kindness; and whoever swears to avenge betrayed trust stakes his own purity against these very sins.
