धर्माद् अपेता ये चान्ये मया नात्रानुकीर्तिताः ॥
ये चानुकीर्तिताः क्षिप्रं तेषां गतिम् अवाप्नुयाम् ॥
यदि व्युष्टाम् इमां रात्रिं श्वो न हन्यां जयद्रथम् ॥
इमां चाप्य् अपरां भूयः प्रतिज्ञां मे निबोधत ॥
यद्य् अस्मिन्न् अहते पापे सूर्यो ऽस्तम् उपयास्यति ॥
इहैव संप्रवेष्टाहं ज्वलितं जातवेदसम् ॥
dharmād apetā ye cānye mayā nātrānukīrtitāḥ ||
ye cānukīrtitāḥ kṣipraṃ teṣāṃ gatim avāpnuyām ||
yadi vyuṣṭām imāṃ rātriṃ śvo na hanyāṃ jayadratham ||
imāṃ cāpy aparāṃ bhūyaḥ pratijñāṃ me nibodhata ||
yady asminn ahate pāpe sūryo 'stam upayāsyati ||
ihaiva saṃpraveṣṭāhaṃ jvalitaṃ jātavedasam ||
"And others too who have fallen from dharma, not named here by me, and those who are named — may I soon receive their lot [should I fail]. And hear, besides, another vow of mine: if, while this villain is not slain, the sun inclines toward its setting..."

Arjuna closes the curse with total scope: 'ye ca anye... na anukīrtitāḥ ye ca anukīrtitāḥ,' 'both those unnamed and those named' who have fallen from dharma — no loophole is left. And at once he lays upon himself a second, still harsher vow — bound by a deadline at sunset. 'Asmin ahate pāpe sūryaḥ astam upayāsyati' — this self-imposed time limit turns the vow into a wager with death. It is telling that the one who gives his word himself narrows his own room for retreat. The verse teaches that true resolve leaves itself no loopholes: it binds itself both to the full weight of sin should it fail and to the relentlessness of a deadline, making fulfillment the only possible outcome.
