श्वो विद्धो ध्वजश् छिन्नः सारोहः तितो जः
त्राणि चाविद्धानि थाश् क्रैर् विना कृताः
विद्रुतानि सैन्यानि रार्तानि न्ततः
इत्य् सीत् तुमुलं युद्धं प्राज्ञा किं

aśvo viddho dhvajaś chinnaḥ rohaḥ patito gajaḥ ||
chatrāṇi paviddhāni rathāś cakrair vi kṛtāḥ ||
vidruni ca sainyāni śartāni samantataḥ ||
ity āt tumulaṃ yuddhaṃ na prājñāyata kiṃ cana ||

Translation

Horse pierced, banner cut, elephant fallen with its rider, parasols thrown down, chariots left without wheels; and armies turned to flight, tormented by arrows on every side — such was the tumultuous battle that nothing at all could be discerned.
