सा ज्वलन्ती महोल्केव तम् आसाद्य महारथम् ॥
सविस्फुलिङ्गा निर्भिद्य निपपात महीतले ॥
तं चतुर्दशभिः पार्थो नाराचैः कङ्कपत्रिभिः ॥
साश्वध्वजधनुःसूतं विव्याधाचिन्त्यविक्रमः ॥
रथं चान्यैः सुबहुभिश् चक्रे विशकलं शरैः ॥
सुदक्षिणं तु काम्बोजं मोघसंकल्पविक्रमम् ॥
बिभेद हृदि बाणेन पृथुधारेण पाण्डवः ॥
sā jvalantī maholkeva tam āsādya mahāratham ||
savisphuliṅgā nirbhidya nipapāta mahītale ||
taṃ caturdaśabhiḥ pārtho nārācaiḥ kaṅkapatribhiḥ ||
sāśvadhvajadhanuḥsūtaṃ vivyādhācintyavikramaḥ ||
rathaṃ cānyaiḥ subahubhiś cakre viśakalaṃ śaraiḥ ||
sudakṣiṇaṃ tu kāmbojaṃ moghasaṃkalpavikramam ||
bibheda hṛdi bāṇena pṛthudhāreṇa pāṇḍavaḥ ||
She, blazing like a great meteor, having reached him, the great warrior, shedding sparks, broke through and fell to the ground. Him, with fourteen iron heron-feathered arrows, Partha, of inconceivable valor, pierced — together with his horses, banner, bow, and charioteer. Sudakshina, the Kambojan, whose resolve and valor were now in vain, the Pandava cleaved in the heart with a broad-bladed arrow.

"Moghasaṃkalpavikramam," "with futile resolve and valor," is a bitter verdict on Sudakshina: both his determination and his courage proved in vain. Valor given to untruth bears no fruit. It is telling that his meteor-like javelin only scattered into sparks, while he himself fell. The verse teaches that effort not aligned with dharma is futile however great the courage behind it: "mogha-saṃkalpa," vain resolve, is the lot of one who spends his strength for an unrighteous cause; and valor not illumined by truth is quenched like a meteor that never reaches its mark.
