ततः सर्वस्य सैन्यस्य तावकस्य विशां पते ॥
सिंहनादो महान् आसीद् धतं मत्वा धनंजयम् ॥
कृष्णश् च भृशसंतप्तो दृष्ट्वा पार्थं विचेतसम् ॥
आश्वासयत् सुहृद्याभिर् वाग्भिस् तत्र धनंजयम् ॥

siṃhanādo mahān āsīd dhataṃ matvā dhanaṃjayam ||

āśvāsayat suhṛdyābhir vāgbhis tatra dhanaṃjayam ||

Translation
Then throughout all your army, O lord of peoples, there arose a great lion's roar, for they thought Dhananjaya slain. And Krishna, deeply grieved, seeing Partha bereft of his senses, consoled Dhananjaya there with friendly words.

The enemy rejoices too soon: "hataṃ matvā dhanaṃjayam," thinking Arjuna slain. But Krishna "bhṛśasaṃtaptaḥ... āśvāsayat suhṛdyābhiḥ vāgbhiḥ," deeply grieved, consoles his friend with tender words. Telling is it that the Lord does not work a miracle at once, but first comforts in a human way, with a word of love. The verse teaches that God, in a friend's distress, first of all feels compassion and gives comfort: before the display of power comes the word of love; and the Lord's help begins not with a thundering act, but with quiet consolation that lifts the devotee's spirit.
