अवश्यं तु मया सर्वं विज्ञाप्यस् त्वं नराधिप ॥
वासुदेवस्य यद् वाक्यं फल्गुनस्य च धीमतः ॥
दृढं त्व् अभिपरीतो ऽहम् अर्जुनेन पुनः पुनः ॥
मध्ये सर्वस्य सैन्यस्य वासुदेवस्य शृण्वतः ॥
अद्य माधव राजानम् अप्रमत्तो ऽनुपालय ॥
आर्यां युद्धे मतिं कृत्वा यावद् धन्मि जयद्रथम् ॥

avaśyaṃ tu mayā sarvaṃ vijñāpyas tvaṃ narādhipa ||
vāsudevasya yad vākyaṃ phalgunasya ca dhīmataḥ ||
dṛḍhaṃ tv abhiparīto 'ham arjunena punaḥ punaḥ ||
madhye sarvasya sainyasya vāsudevasya śṛṇvataḥ ||
adya mādhava rājānam apramatto 'nupālaya ||
āryāṃ yuddhe matiṃ kṛtvā yāvad dhanmi jayadratham ||

Translation

Yet I must surely inform you of all this, O lord of men — of what was the speech of Vasudeva and of the wise Phalguna. For I am firmly bound by Arjuna, who, again and again, in the midst of the whole army, with Vasudeva listening, said: 'Now, Madhava, watchfully guard the king, having made a noble resolve in battle, until I slay Jayadratha.'
