पश्य पाण्डवमुख्येन यातां भूमिं किरीटिना ॥
पत्त्यश्वरथनागौघैः पतितैर् विषमीकृताम् ॥
अभ्याशस्थम् अहं मन्ये श्वेताश्वं कृष्णसारथिम् ॥
स एष श्रूयते शब्दो गाण्डीवस्यामितौजसः ॥
यादृशानि निमित्तानि मम प्रादुर्भवन्ति वै ॥
अनस्तंगत आदित्ये हन्ता सैन्धवम् अर्जुनः ॥
paśya pāṇḍavamukhyena yātāṃ bhūmiṃ kirīṭinā ||
pattyaśvarathanāgaughaiḥ patitair viṣamīkṛtām ||
abhyāśastham ahaṃ manye śvetāśvaṃ kṛṣṇasārathim ||
sa eṣa śrūyate śabdo gāṇḍīvasyāmitaujasaḥ ||
yādṛśāni nimittāni mama prādurbhavanti vai ||
anastaṃgata āditye hantā saindhavam arjunaḥ ||
"Behold the ground traversed by the foremost of the Pandavas, the Diademed one, made uneven by the streams of the fallen -- foot, horses, chariots, elephants. I deem the White-Horsed one, with Krishna as charioteer, nearby; there, that sound of the Gandiva of measureless might is heard. By the omens that appear to me, [before] the sun sets, Arjuna will slay the Sindhu king."

Satyaki reads the nearness of his friend from the tracks -- the furrowed earth and the voice of the Gandiva: a loving heart recognizes the dear one by the smallest signs. From the "nimittāni", the omens, he foresees the outcome as well -- before sunset Jayadratha will fall. It is telling that his faith rests on auspicious signs. The verse teaches that love keenly discerns the presence of the beloved and trusts good signs: for a heart set upon its goal, even the very traces of the loved one are tidings of him, and reliance on a good outcome strengthens one along the way.
