अप्रियं सुमहत् कृत्वा सिन्धुराजः किरीटिनः ॥
चक्षुर्विषयम् आपन्नः कथं मुच्येत जीवितः ॥
अनुमानाच् च पश्यामि नास्ति संजय सैन्धवः ॥
युद्धं तु तद् यथा वृत्तं तन् ममाचक्ष्व पृच्छतः ॥

cakṣurviṣayam āpannaḥ kathaṃ mucyeta jīvitaḥ ||
anumānāc ca paśyāmi nāsti saṃjaya saindhavaḥ ||
yuddhaṃ tu tad yathā vṛttaṃ tan mamācakṣva pṛcchataḥ ||

Translation
"Having done so great a wrong to the Diademed One [Arjuna], the king of Sindhu [Jayadratha], having come within his sight — how could he escape alive? And by inference I see, Sanjaya: Saindhava is no more. But tell me that battle, as it happened, since I ask."

The king himself draws the conclusion about Jayadratha's fate: one who has wronged Arjuna and comes within his sight will not survive. It is telling that the wrongful deed itself — "so great an evil" — seals the doom of the one who did it: retribution is contained in the offense. The verse teaches that harm done to the strong and righteous carries within it the sentence against the offender; and a sober mind foresees the outcome not by guesswork but by the inescapable bond between guilt and reckoning.
