Traducción

Vaishampayana said: “I shall relate the whole teaching of that sage honored in all worlds, great of soul, boundless in energy — of Vyasa. For this hundred thousand verses of righteous deeds has been expounded here by the boundlessly mighty son of Satyavati (Vyasa). The learned one who proclaims this, and the man who hears it — they, reaching the abode of Brahma, shall attain equality with the gods. This tale is equal to the Vedas, pure and supreme; of all things heard, it is supreme, an ancient tale praised by the sages. In it, meaning (artha) and dharma are taught in their entirety, and the understanding that leads to final liberation — in this history of great sanctity. The wise man, having recited this Veda of Krishna (Vyasa) to the generous, truthful, and faithful, attains the highest goal. And even a most cruel man, hearing this history, will without doubt abandon sin equal to the killing of an embryo. This history is named 'Jaya' ('Victory'); it should be heard by one who desires victory: he shall conquer the whole earth and vanquish his enemies as well. This is the best means for begetting a son, a great blessing of well-being; it should be heard many times by the queen and the young crown prince. This is the beneficial treatise on wealth, this is the supreme treatise on dharma, this is called the treatise on liberation — thus it was proclaimed by Vyasa of boundless wisdom.”
