शीघ्रं गच्छाम भद्रं ते न नो विद्यात् सुयोधनः ॥
ततः सर्वे तथेत्य् उक्त्वा सह मात्रा परंतपाः ॥
प्रययुः पुरुषव्याघ्रा हिडिम्बा चैव राक्षसी ॥
nadūre nagaraṃ manye vanād asmād ahaṃ prabho ||
śīghraṃ gacchāma bhadraṃ te na no vidyāt suyodhanaḥ ||
tataḥ sarve tathety uktvā saha mātrā paraṃtapāḥ ||
prayayuḥ puruṣavyāghrā hiḍimbā caiva rākṣasī ||
Arjuna said: "Not far, I think, is the city from this forest, O lord; let us go quickly, good fortune to you -- may Suyodhana not learn of us." Vaishampayana continued: Then all of them, saying "so be it," together with their mother, those scorchers of foes, the tiger-men, set out on their way -- and Hidimba the rakshasi with them.

Here again the caution of the exiles shows itself -- and Hidimba's acceptance into their circle takes place. The mention of Suyodhana is significant: the Pandavas, believed dead in the house of lac, must keep their secret, and Arjuna guards it by hastening their departure. This is the prudence of persecuted righteous men, who do not tempt fate by revealing themselves too soon. Significant, too, is the verse's close: Hidimba goes along with them -- one who has turned toward the good is not rejected but received into the family. Thus the verse shows two movements at once: watchful caution before the visible enemy, and gracious welcome to a recent enemy whose heart has changed.
