Here it is revealed that those mourned are already in bliss. It is significant that Vasishtha's slain sons "rejoice with the gods": those grieved over have not perished at all, but have risen to higher worlds -- the death of the body is not the end. Here lies comfort through knowledge: one who knows that the righteous are blessed after death will not avenge their "destruction," for there is no destruction. It is significant that "all this is known to Vasishtha": the father himself, knowing everything, does not take vengeance -- an example for his grandson. Thus the scripture reveals that vengeance is born of ignorance about the fate of the departed; and insight into their bliss extinguishes wrath.
