Here the victors leave unnoticed, sheltered by their brethren. It is telling that the brahmins surrounding the brothers shelter them: an assembly of the righteous protects its own. Telling too is that Draupadi follows behind them — the prize they had won; and, wounded yet triumphant, they "shine." Here it is shown that true triumph lies not in splendor but in what has been accomplished: departing in rags, wounded, they shine brighter than crowned kings. Thus the scripture reveals the humble procession of the victors; and Draupadi, following Arjuna, enters into their hidden life.
