दिष्ट्या जीवन्ति ते पार्था दिष्ट्या जीवति सा पृथा ॥
दिष्ट्या द्रुपदकन्यां च लब्धवन्तो महारथाः ॥
दिष्ट्या वर्धामहे सर्वे दिष्ट्या शान्तः पुरोचनः ॥
दिष्ट्या मम परं दुःखम् अपनीतं महाद्युते ॥
diṣṭyā jīvanti te pārthā diṣṭyā jīvati sā pṛthā ||
diṣṭyā drupadakanyāṃ ca labdhavanto mahārathāḥ ||
diṣṭyā vardhāmahe sarve diṣṭyā śāntaḥ purocanaḥ ||
diṣṭyā mama paraṃ duḥkham apanītaṃ mahādyute ||
"By good fortune those Parthas live, by good fortune Pritha lives, by good fortune the great chariot-warriors have won the daughter of Drupada; by good fortune all of us are prospering, by good fortune Purochana has perished; by good fortune my great sorrow has been removed, O most radiant one."

Here the king repeats "by good fortune" -- but does his heart truly listen? It is telling that Dhritarashtra rejoices at the Pandavas' deliverance through Vidura's word; whether sincerely so, time alone will show. The lips easily utter what is good, but steadfastness in it is a matter of the heart. Thus scripture displays a joyful turn, still fragile; and the king's words call us to hope for the best, until partiality prevails or is overcome.
