वैशंपायन उवाच
ततो जगाम विदुरो धृतराष्ट्रस्य शासनात् ॥
सकाशं यज्ञसेनस्य पाण्डवानां च भारत ॥
तत्र गत्वा स धर्मज्ञः सर्वशास्त्रविशारदः ॥
द्रुपदं न्यायतो राजन् संयुक्तम् उपतस्थिवान् ॥
स चापि प्रतिजग्राह धर्मेण विदुरं ततः ॥
चक्रतुश् च यथान्यायं कुशलप्रश्नसंविदम् ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
tato jagāma viduro dhṛtarāṣṭrasya śāsanāt ||
sakāśaṃ yajñasenasya pāṇḍavānāṃ ca bhārata ||
tatra gatvā sa dharmajñaḥ sarvaśāstraviśāradaḥ ||
drupadaṃ nyāyato rājan saṃyuktam upatasthivān ||
sa cāpi pratijagrāha dharmeṇa viduraṃ tataḥ ||
cakratuś ca yathānyāyaṃ kuśalapraśnasaṃvidam ||
Vaishampayana said: "Then Vidura set out, by the command of Dhritarashtra, to Yajnasena and the Pandavas; having gone there, that knower of dharma, versed in all the sciences, approached Drupada, as was fitting, joined together with the Pandavas; and Drupada received Vidura by dharma, and they exchanged, as was proper, greetings of well-being."

Here the meeting of the worthy is conducted according to the code of courtesy. It is telling that both the envoy and his host observe custom: the noble deal with one another "by dharma." In this we see that courtesy is the setting of good will. Thus scripture displays the graciousness of the meeting; and the embassy of peace begins with mutual respect.
