रूपवन्तम् अधीयानम् एकम् एकान्तचारिणम् ॥
तस्य वै तपसा राजंस् तद् वनं तेजसावृतम् ॥
आदित्य इव तं देशं कृत्स्नं स व्यवभासयत् ॥

Here the ascetic's radiance manifests the power of his tapas. It is significant that the brahmin 'illumines the forest like the sun': the heat of pure austerity radiates as visible splendor. Spiritual asceticism generates a tejas [radiance] visible even to celestials. Thus the scripture reveals the greatness of the ascetic; and this very light drew the apsaras to their ruin.
