रथेन काञ्चनाङ्गेन कल्पितेन यथाविधि ॥
सैन्यसुग्रीवयुक्तेन किङ्किणीजालमालिना ॥
सर्वशस्त्रोपपन्नेन जीमूतरवनादिना ॥
ज्वलिताग्निप्रकाशेन द्विषतां हर्षघातिना ॥
संनद्धः कवची खड्गी बद्धगोधाङ्गुलित्रवान् ॥
मृगयाव्यपदेशेन यौगपद्येन भारत ॥
rathena kāñcanāṅgena kalpitena yathāvidhi ||
sainyasugrīvayuktena kiṅkiṇījālamālinā ||
sarvaśastropapannena jīmūtaravanādinā ||
jvalitāgniprakāśena dviṣatāṃ harṣaghātinā ||
saṃnaddhaḥ kavacī khaḍgī baddhagodhāṅgulitravān ||
mṛgayāvyapadeśena yaugapadyena bhārata ||
‘On a chariot with a golden body, equipped according to custom, yoked with the horses Sainya and Sugriva, hung with nets of small bells, furnished with every weapon, rumbling like a thundercloud, shining like blazing fire, destroying the joy of enemies; equipped, in armor, with a sword, with finger-guards and an arm-guard put on, under the pretext of a hunt, he set out at once, O Bharata.’

Here the hero prepares for the deed as a warrior, in full array. It is significant that Arjuna rides out in armor and armed, ‘under the pretext of a hunt’: a bold undertaking demands both strength and caution. The lesson here is that even a blessed task is carried out with due care. Thus the scripture reveals Arjuna's readiness; and his formidable chariot foretells his resolve.
