स्वर्गम् आस्थाय कस्य स्याद् विग्रहित्वं यथा तव ॥
मागधैर् विपुलैः सैन्यैर् बाहुल्यबलदर्पितैः ॥
मावमंस्थाः परान् राजन् नास्ति वीर्यं नरे नरे ॥
समं तेजस् त्वया चैव केवलं मनुजेश्वर ॥

“Who, having set his goal on heaven, would have such enmity as with you, with the vast Magadhan armies, proud in their abundance of might? Do not scorn your foes, O king: valor is not equal in every man; a splendor equal to yours exists in others too, not in you alone, O lord of men.”

Here the enemy is given a final warning: do not scorn your opponent. It is telling that Krishna, even while threatening, still cautions him: pride that deems itself uniquely strong is blind to the valor of others. Thus scripture shows that even in the hour of battle there remains room for warning; what follows is a call to set aside arrogance.
