"There, where mighty Vishnu once performed purification after conquering and destroying the enemies of the gods, let him then go to the renowned Vasordhara: mere approach to it grants the ashvamedha. Having bathed there and satisfied the gods and the pitrs, a man is honored in the world of Vishnu. There too is the supreme, holy tirtha of the Vasus; having bathed and drunk there, a man becomes accepted by the Vasus. The place known as Sindhuttama destroys all sins and grants abundant gold. Having reached Brahmatunga, a pure and focused man goes to Brahmaloka. At the tirtha of the maiden Kumarikas and of Shakra, frequented by the siddhas, a man swiftly attains the world of Shakra. There too is the tirtha of Renuka, frequented by the gods; having bathed there, a brahmin becomes as pure as the moon. Coming to Panchanada, restrained and moderate in food, a man obtains the merit of five sacrifices. Then let him go to the supreme place of Bhima: having bathed there in the yoni of the goddess, he becomes a son of the goddess, radiant with molten earrings, and obtains the great fruit of a hundred thousand cows. Having reached Girimunja, renowned in the three worlds, and bowed to Pitamaha, he obtains the fruit of a thousand cows. Then to Vimala, where even now golden and silver fish are seen; having bathed there, a man obtains the vajapeya, is purified of all sins, and goes to the supreme goal. Then to Malada: touching it at the western twilight and offering an oblation to the Seven-Flamed One according to his ability, he obtains an inexhaustible gift for the pitrs. The oblation to the Seven-Flamed One surpasses a hundred thousand cows, a hundred rajasuyas, and a thousand ashvamedhas. Then let him enter Vastrapada and, having approached Mahadeva, obtain the fruit of the ashvamedha. Having reached Manimant and spent one night as a brahmacharin, he obtains the agnishtoma. Then to Devika, renowned in the world, where the birth of brahmins is heard of, and to the place of Trishulapani; having bathed in the Devika, honored Maheshvara, and offered an oblation according to his ability, he obtains the fruit of a sacrifice that fulfills all desires. At the tirtha of Rudra called Kamakhya, frequented by the divine seers, a man swiftly attains perfection. Coming to Yajana, Yajana, and Brahmavaluka, and touching Pushpanyasa, he no longer grieves over death. The Devika is said to be holy, frequented by the divine seers, half a yojana in width and five yojanas in length. Then let him go to Dirghasatra, where Brahma and the other gods, the siddhas, and the great seers perform a long sacrificial session; mere approach grants the fruit of the rajasuya and the ashvamedha. Then to Vinashana, where the Sarasvati hides in the desert and reappears at Chamasodbheda, Shivodbheda, and Nagodbheda: bathing at Chamasodbheda grants the agnishtoma, at Shivodbheda the fruit of a thousand cows, at Nagodbheda the world of the nagas. Having reached the difficult tirtha of Shashayana, where the Pushkaras are hidden in the form of a hare and every year at Kartika bathe in the Sarasvati, a man shines like the moon and obtains the fruit of a thousand cows. Having reached Kumarakoti, the restrained descendant of Kuru should perform ablution there, honoring the pitrs and the gods: he obtains the gavamayana and raises up his lineage. Then to Rudrakoti, where once a koti of seers, wishing to see Vrishabhadhvaja, quarreled, each saying, 'I shall see him first!' Yogeshvara, to destroy their anger, created before them a koti of Rudras, and each one thought, 'I saw him first.' Pleased with their supreme devotion, Mahadeva granted them a boon: 'From this day your dharma shall increase.' Having bathed at Rudrakoti, a pure man obtains the ashvamedha and raises up his lineage. Then let him go to the renowned confluence, the greatly holy place of the Sarasvati, where people worship Janardana and where, on the fourteenth day of the bright half of Chaitra, Brahma and the other gods, seers, siddhas, and charanas come. Having bathed there, he obtains abundant gold, is purified of all sins, and goes to Brahmaloka. Having reached Satravasana, where the sacrificial sessions of the seers were completed, he obtains the fruit of a thousand cows."

Here the tirthas join Vishnu, Rudra, Brahma, the goddess, and the seers within a single sacred landscape. For Yudhishthira this is a way of seeing the world as a field charged with the memory of God and dharma.
