युधिष्ठिरो धर्ममयो महाद्रुमः; स्कन्धो ऽर्जुनो भीमसेनो ऽस्य शाखाः ॥
माद्रीपुत्रौ पुष्पफले समृद्धे; मूलं त्व् अहं ब्रह्म च ब्राह्मणाश् च ॥
वनं राजा धृतराष्ट्रः सपुत्रो; व्याघ्रा वने संजय पाण्डवेयाः ॥
मा वनं छिन्धि सव्याघ्रं मा व्याघ्रान् नीनशो वनात् ॥
निर्वनो वध्यते व्याघ्रो निर्व्याघ्रं छिद्यते वनम् ॥
तस्माद् व्याघ्रो वनं रक्षेद् वनं व्याघ्रं च पालयेत् ॥
लताधर्मा धार्तराष्ट्राः शालाः संजय पाण्डवाः ॥
न लता वर्धते जातु अनाश्रित्य महाद्रुमम् ॥
स्थिताः शुश्रूषितुं पार्थाः स्थिता योद्धुम् अरिंदमाः ॥
यत्कृत्यं धृतराष्ट्रस्य तत् करोतु नराधिपः ॥

nirvano vadhyate vyāghro nirvyāghraṃ chidyate vanam ||
tasmād vyāghro vanaṃ rakṣed vanaṃ vyāghraṃ ca pālayet ||
latādharmā dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ śālāḥ saṃjaya pāṇḍavāḥ ||
na latā vardhate jātu anāśritya mahādrumam ||
sthitāḥ śuśrūṣituṃ pārthāḥ sthitā yoddhum ariṃdamāḥ ||
yatkṛtyaṃ dhṛtarāṣṭrasya tat karotu narādhipaḥ ||
I hope that when I speak to the Kurus words of wisdom, grounded in the rules of righteousness, words full of meaning and free from any tendency toward inhumanity, the son of Dhritarashtra will heed them in my presence. I hope that when I arrive, the Kurus will show me due respect. Otherwise, you may be certain that these wicked sons of Dhritarashtra, already scorched by their own vicious deeds, will be burned by Arjuna and Bhima, ready for battle. When the sons of Pandu suffered defeat (at the game), the sons of Dhritarashtra spoke harsh and cruel words to them. But when the time comes, Bhima will surely take care to remind Duryodhana of those words. Duryodhana is a great tree of evil passions; Karna is its trunk; Shakuni its branches; Duhshasana forms its abundant flowers and fruit; while the unwise king Dhritarashtra is its roots. Yudhishthira is a great tree of righteousness; Arjuna is its trunk; Bhima its branches; the sons of Madri its abundant flowers and fruit; and its roots are myself, religion, and the righteous. King Dhritarashtra together with his sons is a forest, and the sons of Pandu, O Sanjaya, are its tigers.
