समेतं पार्थिवं क्षत्रं काशिराज्ञः स्वयंवरे ॥
निर्जित्यैकरथेनैव यत् कन्यास् तरसा हृताः ॥
ईदृशानां सहस्राणि विशिष्टानाम् अथो पुनः ॥
मयैकेन निरस्तानि ससैन्यानि रणाजिरे ॥
त्वां प्राप्य वैरपुरुषं कुरूणाम् अनयो महान् ॥
उपस्थितो विनाशाय यतस्व पुरुषो भव ॥
युध्यस्व पार्थं समरे येन विस्पर्धसे सह ॥
द्रक्ष्यामि त्वां विनिर्मुक्तम् अस्माद् युद्धात् सुदुर्मते ॥
संजय उवाच
तम् उवाच ततो राजा धार्तराष्ट्रो महामनाः ॥
माम् अवेक्षस्व गाङ्गेय कार्यं हि महद् उद्यतम् ॥

yudhyasva pārthaṃ samare yena vispardhase saha ||
drakṣyāmi tvāṃ vinirmuktam asmād yuddhāt sudurmate ||
saṃjaya uvāca
tam uvāca tato rājā dhārtarāṣṭro mahāmanāḥ ||
mām avekṣasva gāṅgeya kāryaṃ hi mahad udyatam ||
At the svayamvara of the king of Kashi, conquering with a single chariot the assembled kshatriya kings, I swiftly carried off the maidens. Thousands of such outstanding warriors, again and again, together with their armies, were routed by me alone on the field of battle. Because of you, a man of enmity, great ruin has come upon the Kurus, threatening their destruction; make the effort, be a man. Fight in battle against Partha, with whom you vie; I will see whether you, O wicked-witted one, come out of this war unscathed. His subsequent speech about the Pandavas then reads as a sober warning to Duryodhana. He lists not only their strength, stature, and weapons but also the memory of Draupadi's humiliation and the dice game — precisely this memory will fuel their fighting. A special place is given to Arjuna together with Krishna: here the ratha is assessed not merely as a warrior but as an entire fighting reality, in which charioteer, weapons, horses, armor, astras, and inner resolve are joined into a single force.
