एवम् आश्वासितो राजन् पुत्रेण तव सैन्धवः ॥
दुर्योधनेन सहितो द्रोणं रात्राव् उपागमत् ॥
उपसंग्रहणं कृत्वा द्रोणाय स विशां पते ॥
उपोपविश्य प्रणतः पर्यपृच्छद् इदं तदा ॥

Thus encouraged, O king, by your son, the man of Sindhu together with Duryodhana came to Drona by night. Having clasped Drona's feet, he, O lord of the peoples, sat down beside him and, bowing low, asked then this.

Duryodhana's word did not bring true peace — and so Jayadratha seeks another: he goes to the teacher, to the source of martial knowledge. "Upasaṃgrahaṇaṃ kṛtvā… praṇataḥ", "having clasped his feet… humbly" — fear has brought him to a humility that was not in him before. It is telling that from flattery and numbers he turns to a teacher: a soul unconsoled by outward things reaches toward one who can grant true support through knowledge. The verse teaches that unappeased anxiety leads to the teacher, and humility before one who knows is the first step from blind fear toward clarity — even if what moves it is only the thirst to survive.
