तत्र वेदविदो विप्रान् अपश्यद् ब्राह्मणर्षभान् ॥
दान्तान् वेदव्रतस्नातान् स्नातान् अवभृथेषु च ॥
सहस्रानुचरान् सौरान् अष्टौ दशशतानि च ॥

Traducción
Going out to the second enclosure, the tiger among men, the king, saw there brahmins knowing the Vedas, bulls among brahmins: restrained, bathed in the vows of the Vedas and in the concluding ablutions, with thousands of sun-worshipping followers — eighteen hundred.

Having completed the household rite, the king goes to the brahmins — "vedavidaḥ… dāntān vedavratasnātān", knowers of the Vedas, restrained, who have passed through the vows. It is telling that before the affairs of state Yudhishthira presents himself before the keepers of sacred knowledge: the ruler honors brahmins as a source of blessing. The verse teaches the right order of reverence: service to fire is followed by honor to the wise; and a righteous king begins his day by surrounding himself with those who keep the Veda and have mastered themselves, for he places the good of the realm in the blessing of the knowing.
