अदृश्यं दृश्य राजानं भारद्वाजस्य सायकैः ॥
सर्वभूतान्य् अमन्यन्त हतम् एव युधिष्ठिरम् ॥
के चिच् चैनम् अमन्यन्त तथा वै विमुखीकृतम् ॥
हृतो राजेति राजेन्द्र ब्राह्मणेन यशस्विना ॥
स कृच्छ्रं परमं प्राप्तो धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः ॥
त्यक्त्वा तत् कार्मुकं छिन्नं भारद्वाजेन संयुगे ॥
आददे ऽन्यद् धनुर् दिव्यं भारघ्नं वेगवत्तरम् ॥
adṛśyaṃ dṛśya rājānaṃ bhāradvājasya sāyakaiḥ ||
sarvabhūtāny amanyanta hatam eva yudhiṣṭhiram ||
ke cic cainam amanyanta tathā vai vimukhīkṛtam ||
hṛto rājeti rājendra brāhmaṇena yaśasvinā ||
sa kṛcchraṃ paramaṃ prāpto dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||
tyaktvā tat kārmukaṃ chinnaṃ bhāradvājena saṃyuge ||
ādade 'nyad dhanur divyaṃ bhāraghnaṃ vegavattaram ||

The cry "hṛto rājā," "the king is captured!" is the very goal Drona seeks — to take Yudhishthira alive by the word he gave Duryodhana. It is telling that in this moment even onlookers believe all is over, for the calamity of the righteous is visible to all. But the appearance of ruin is not ruin itself. The verse teaches that in the hour when everyone believes truth already crushed, it has only been put to the test; the outside verdict of "hatam eva" rushes to bury what is still alive and will yet stand.
