सिंहनादं ततः कृत्वा द्रोणं विव्याध सात्यकिः ॥
दशभिः सायकैश् चान्यैः षड्भिर् अष्टाभिर् एव च ॥
युयुधानः पुनर् द्रोणं विव्याध दशभिः शरैः ॥
एकेन सारथिं चास्य चतुर्भिश् चतुरो हयान् ॥
ध्वजम् एकेन बाणेन विव्याध युधि मारिष ॥
तं द्रोणः साश्वयन्तारं सरथध्वजम् आशुगैः ॥
त्वरन् प्राच्छादयद् बाणैः शलभानाम् इव व्रजैः ॥
तथैव युयुधानो ऽपि द्रोणं बहुभिर् आशुगैः ॥
प्राच्छादयद् असंभ्रान्तस् ततो द्रोण उवाच ह ॥
siṃhanādaṃ tataḥ kṛtvā droṇaṃ vivyādha sātyakiḥ ||
daśabhiḥ sāyakaiś cānyaiḥ ṣaḍbhir aṣṭābhir eva ca ||
yuyudhānaḥ punar droṇaṃ vivyādha daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
ekena sārathiṃ cāsya caturbhiś caturo hayān ||
dhvajam ekena bāṇena vivyādha yudhi māriṣa ||
taṃ droṇaḥ sāśvayantāraṃ sarathadhvajam āśugaiḥ ||
tvaran prācchādayad bāṇaiḥ śalabhānām iva vrajaiḥ ||
tathaiva yuyudhāno 'pi droṇaṃ bahubhir āśugaiḥ ||
prācchādayad asaṃbhrāntas tato droṇa uvāca ha ||
Having then let out a lion's roar, Satyaki pierced Drona with ten arrows and others -- with six and eight. Yuyudhana again pierced Drona with ten shafts, with one his charioteer, with four his four horses. His banner he pierced with one arrow in battle, O worthy one. Drona, in haste, covered him, along with his horses, charioteer, chariot, and banner, with swift arrows, as if with swarms of locusts. Just so Yuyudhana too, unperturbed, covered Drona with many swift arrows; then Drona spoke.

Satyaki meets Drona's rain of arrows "asaṃbhrāntaḥ", unperturbed: composure of spirit is his armor. It is telling that even under the hail of the mightiest of archers he does not lose his evenness. The verse teaches that coolness in extreme danger is valor's highest form of self-possession: he who keeps unperturbed amid the onslaught masters himself, and he who masters himself masters the battle too -- for confusion destroys more surely than an enemy's arrow.
