"Drona received them, seeking to seize Yudhishthira in battle, as a mountain receives clouds tossed up by a fierce wind, laden with moisture. There, O king, was a great and ever-growing battle, resembling Rudra's play — the destruction of all embodied beings."

Drona meets the onslaught "acalo yathā", like a mountain meeting storm clouds: steadfastness stands against the tempest, and still he is "parīpsan yudhi pāṇḍavam", intent on capturing Yudhishthira. The battle is likened to "rudrasya ākrīḍa", the play of Rudra — universal destruction. It is telling that the strife reaches cosmic proportions. The verse teaches that discord, once kindled, turns into a likeness of universal dissolution: what began as human enmity swells into "the destruction of all embodied beings" — a fearsome image of where unresolved conflict leads.
