तस्य तल् लाघवं दृष्ट्वा प्रहसन् द्विजसत्तमः ॥
प्रेषयाम् आस विशिखान् अष्टौ संनतपर्वणः ॥
तान् दृष्ट्वा पततः शीघ्रं द्रोणचापच्युताञ् शरान् ॥
अवारयच् छरैर् एव तावद्भिर् निशितैर् दृढैः ॥
ततो ऽभवन् महाराज तव सैन्यस्य विस्मयः ॥
बृहत्क्षत्रेण तत् कर्म कृतं दृष्ट्वा सुदुष्करम् ॥
tasya tal lāghavaṃ dṛṣṭvā prahasan dvijasattamaḥ ||
preṣayām āsa viśikhān aṣṭau saṃnataparvaṇaḥ ||
tān dṛṣṭvā patataḥ śīghraṃ droṇacāpacyutāñ śarān ||
avārayac charair eva tāvadbhir niśitair dṛḍhaiḥ ||
tato 'bhavan mahārāja tava sainyasya vismayaḥ ||
bṛhatkṣatreṇa tat karma kṛtaṃ dṛṣṭvā suduṣkaram ||
Seeing that dexterity of his, laughing, the best of the twice-born sent forth eight smooth-jointed arrows. Seeing those swiftly falling arrows sped from Drona's bow, he warded them off with an equal number of sharp, firm arrows of his own. Then arose, O great king, astonishment among your army, seeing that most difficult feat accomplished by Brihatkshatra.

Brihatkshatra matches Drona as an equal — even your own army is astonished, "suduṣkaram" — at the most difficult deed. It is telling that the epic praises the valor even of one soon to fall. The verse teaches that a man's worth is not lessened by his doom: coming death does not diminish an accomplished feat, and valor shown before death is all the more precious for being achieved on the very edge of it.
