एषः अणुः आत्मा चेतसा वेदितव्यः यस्मिन् प्राणः पञ्चधा संविवेश ।
प्राणैः चित्तं सर्वम् ओतं प्रजानां यस्मिन् विशुद्धे विभवति एषः आत्मा ॥

Traducción
This subtle Ātman is to be known by consciousness — [by that] into which breath has entered fivefold. All the consciousness of beings is woven with the breaths; when it is purified, this Ātman shines forth.

A refining of the instrument: eṣa aṇur ātmā cetasā veditavyaḥ — "this subtle Ātman is to be known by cetas" — by heart-consciousness; and at once, a word about the instrument's condition: yasmin prāṇaḥ pañcadhā saṁviveśa — "into which breath has entered fivefold": our consciousness does not hover apart — it is shot through with five currents of life (prāṇa, apāna, samāna, udāna, vyāna — the map of the Praśna), woven into breath and body.
prāṇaiś cittaṁ sarvam otaṁ prajānām — "all the citta of beings is woven with the breaths" (√ve, "to weave" — the same word used of the worlds woven upon Brahman): the state of consciousness and the state of the life-currents are one fabric: troubled breath muddies thought, passionate thought tears breath. Hence the whole science of purification, from diet to prāṇāyāma: what is cleansed is not "ideas" but the living fabric of consciousness-and-breath.
yasmin viśuddhe vibhavaty eṣa ātmā — "when it is purified, this Ātman shines forth" (vi-√bhū — "to manifest in full force"): the Ātman is not produced by purification — He becomes manifest in the purified, as fire in dry wood, as a reflection in water that has come to rest. The same formula of the Muṇḍaka, said now a third time in three idioms (verses 48, 51, 52): the Presence is constant; what varies is the transparency.
