अनुवाद

"Then, after Vyasa had been honored by all the members of the assembly, Janamejaya, with joined palms, questioned that best of the twice-born: 'You are an eyewitness of the deeds of the Kurus and the Pandavas, O twice-born one; I wish to hear their story told by you. How did the discord arise among them, those heroes untiring in their deeds? And how did that great war come about, which brought destruction upon living beings? Tell me all of this in full -- the war of all my forefathers, whose minds were possessed by fate -- O lord, for you are skilled.' Having heard those words of his, Krishna-Dvaipayana then commanded his disciple Vaishampayana, who was sitting nearby: 'Tell him all that you have heard from me of how the discord between the Kurus and the Pandavas arose long ago.' That foremost of brahmins, having received his teacher's word, then told the entire ancient history -- to that king, to the members of the assembly, and to the kshatriyas from every side: the discord of the Kurus and the Pandavas, and the ruin of the kingdom."
