वसुमना उवाच
पृच्छामि त्वां वसुमना रौशदश्विर् ।
यद्य् अस्ति लोको दिवि मह्यं नरेन्द्र ॥
यद्य् अन्तरिक्षे प्रथितो महात्मन् ।
क्षेत्रज्ञं त्वां तस्य धर्मस्य मन्ये ॥
ययातिर् उवाच
यद् अन्तरिक्षं पृथिवी दिशश् च ।
यत् तेजसा तपते भानुमांश् च ॥
लोकास् तावन्तो दिवि संस्थिता वै ।
ते नान्तवन्तः प्रतिपालयन्ति ॥
वसुमना उवाच
तांस् ते ददामि पत मा प्रपातं ।
ये मे लोकास् तव ते वै भवन्तु ॥
क्रीणीष्वैनांस् तृणकेनापि राजन् ।
प्रतिग्रहस् ते यदि सम्यक् प्रदुष्टः ॥
ययातिर् उवाच
न मिथ्याहं विक्रयं वै स्मरामि ।
वृथा गृहीतं शिशुकाच् छङ्कमानः ॥
कुर्यां न चैवाकृतपूर्वम् अन्यैर् ।
विवित्समानः किम् उ तत्र साधु ॥
वसुमना उवाच
तांस् त्वं लोकान् प्रतिपद्यस्व राजन् ।
मया दत्तान् यदि नेष्टः क्रयस् ते ॥
अहं न तान् वै प्रतिगन्ता नरेन्द्र ।
सर्वे लोकास् तव ते वै भवन्तु ॥
शिबिर् उवाच
पृच्छामि त्वां शिबिर् औशीनरो ऽहं ।
ममापि लोका यदि सन्तीह तात ॥
यद्य् अन्तरिक्षे यदि वा दिवि श्रिताः ।
क्षेत्रज्ञं त्वां तस्य धर्मस्य मन्ये ॥
ययातिर् उवाच
न त्वं वाचा हृदयेनापि विद्वन् ।
परीप्समानान् नावमंस्था नरेन्द्र ॥
तेनानन्ता दिवि लोकाः श्रितास् ते ।
विद्युद्रूपाः स्वनवन्तो महान्तः ॥
शिबिर् उवाच
तांस् त्वं लोकान् प्रतिपद्यस्व राजन् ।
मया दत्तान् यदि नेष्टः क्रयस् ते ॥
न चाहं तान् प्रतिपत्स्येह दत्त्वा ।
यत्र गत्वा त्वम् उपास्से ह लोकान् ॥
ययातिर् उवाच
यथा त्वम् इन्द्रप्रतिमप्रभावस् ।
ते चाप्य् अनन्ता नरदेव लोकाः ॥
तथाद्य लोके न रमे ऽन्यदत्ते ।
तस्माच् छिबे नाभिनन्दामि दायम् ॥

vṛthā gṛhītaṃ śiśukāc chaṅkamānaḥ ||
kuryāṃ na caivākṛtapūrvam anyair |
vivitsamānaḥ kim u tatra sādhu ||
vasumanā uvāca
tāṃs tvaṃ lokān pratipadyasva rājan |
mayā dattān yadi neṣṭaḥ krayas te ||
ahaṃ na tān vai pratigantā narendra |
sarve lokās tava te vai bhavantu ||
śibir uvāca
pṛcchāmi tvāṃ śibir auśīnaro 'haṃ |
mamāpi lokā yadi santīha tāta ||
yady antarikṣe yadi vā divi śritāḥ |
kṣetrajñaṃ tvāṃ tasya dharmasya manye ||
yayātir uvāca
na tvaṃ vācā hṛdayenāpi vidvan |
parīpsamānān nāvamaṃsthā narendra ||
tenānantā divi lokāḥ śritās te |
vidyudrūpāḥ svanavanto mahāntaḥ ||
śibir uvāca
tāṃs tvaṃ lokān pratipadyasva rājan |
mayā dattān yadi neṣṭaḥ krayas te ||
na cāhaṃ tān pratipatsyeha dattvā |
yatra gatvā tvam upāsse ha lokān ||
yayātir uvāca
yathā tvam indrapratimaprabhāvas |
te cāpy anantā naradeva lokāḥ ||
tathādya loke na rame 'nyadatte |
tasmāc chibe nābhinandāmi dāyam ||

वसुमनाः उवाच राजन् ये मे लोकाः तान् ते ददामि प्रपातं मा पत ते वै तव भवन्तु यदि ते प्रतिग्रहः सम्यक् प्रदुष्टः [तर्हि] एनान् तृणकेन अपि क्रीणीष्वvasumanāḥ uvāca rājan ye me lokāḥ tān te dadāmi prapātaṃ mā pata te vai tava bhavantu yadi te pratigrahaḥ samyak praduṣṭaḥ [tarhi] enān tṛṇakena api krīṇīṣvaVasumanas said: O king, whatever worlds are mine, these I give to you; do not fall into ruin; let them be yours; if accepting the gift seems altogether improper to you, then buy them, even if only for a blade of grass.
ययातिः उवाच अहं मिथ्या विक्रयं न स्मरामि शिशुकात् वृथा गृहीतं शङ्कमानः अकृतपूर्वं अन्यैः न कुर्यां विवित्समानः तत्र किम् उ साधुyayātiḥ uvāca ahaṃ mithyā vikrayaṃ na smarāmi śiśukāt vṛthā gṛhītaṃ śaṅkamānaḥ akṛtapūrvaṃ anyaiḥ na kuryāṃ vivitsamānaḥ tatra kim u sādhuYayati said: I do not recall ever dealing falsely; fearing also what is wrongly taken from a child; I will not do what has never been done, what others have not done, merely because I am in need — what good would there be in that?

शिबिः उवाच तात अहं औशीनरः शिबिः त्वां पृच्छामि मम अपि इह लोकाः यदि सन्ति यदि अन्तरिक्षे यदि वा दिवि श्रिताः त्वां तस्य धर्मस्य क्षेत्रज्ञं मन्येśibiḥ uvāca tāta ahaṃ auśīnaraḥ śibiḥ tvāṃ pṛcchāmi mama api iha lokāḥ yadi santi yadi antarikṣe yadi vā divi śritāḥ tvāṃ tasya dharmasya kṣetrajñaṃ manyeShibi said: O dear one, I am Shibi, son of Ushinara; I ask you: if I too have worlds here, whether in the sky or in heaven, [I will give them]; for I consider you a knower of that dharma.
ययातिः उवाच विद्वन् नरेन्द्र त्वं परीप्समानान् वाचा हृदयेन अपि न अवमंस्थाः तेन ते दिवि विद्युद्रूपाः स्वनवन्तः महान्तः अनन्ताः लोकाः श्रिताःyayātiḥ uvāca vidvan narendra tvaṃ parīpsamānān vācā hṛdayena api na avamaṃsthāḥ tena te divi vidyudrūpāḥ svanavantaḥ mahāntaḥ anantāḥ lokāḥ śritāḥYayati said: O learned lord of men, you have never scorned those who begged of you, neither in word nor even in heart; therefore endless worlds are established for you in heaven, great, thundering, and flashing like lightning.
शिबिः उवाच राजन् यदि ते क्रयः न इष्टः [तर्हि] मया दत्तान् तान् लोकान् त्वं प्रतिपद्यस्व अहं तान् दत्त्वा इह न प्रतिपत्स्ये यत्र गत्वा त्वं ह लोकान् उपास्सेśibiḥ uvāca rājan yadi te krayaḥ na iṣṭaḥ [tarhi] mayā dattān tān lokān tvaṃ pratipadyasva ahaṃ tān dattvā iha na pratipatsye yatra gatvā tvaṃ ha lokān upāsseShibi said: O king, if trade does not please you, then simply accept the worlds I give; having given them, I will not return here to them; go to where, having arrived, you will dwell in those worlds.

अनुवाद
