अनुवाद

"And once there lived a wise sage renowned as Utathya; he had a wife named Mamata, greatly esteemed. And the younger brother of Utathya, the household priest of the celestials, the greatly radiant Brihaspati, approached Mamata with desire. Mamata said to that brother-in-law, best of speakers: 'I am pregnant by your elder brother; desist. And this child, O gracious one, still in my womb, O Brihaspati, the son of Utathya, has already studied the Veda with its six auxiliary sciences here. And you, too, surely cannot have fruitless seed; therefore, given this situation, you must now desist.' Though rightly addressed by her, the greatly radiant Brihaspati could not restrain his nature, overpowered by desire. Then, consumed by desire, he united with her though she was unwilling; but as he was releasing his seed, that child dwelling in the womb spoke to him: 'O younger father, I say: there is no room here for two; you have unfailing seed, and I came here first.' Then, thus addressed, the enraged Brihaspati, the lordly sage, cursed that son of Utathya dwelling in the womb, having rebuked him: 'Because you spoke such a word at a time desired by all beings, for that you shall enter into a long darkness.' And he, by the curse of the greatly glorious Brihaspati, was born a sage named Dirghatamas, yet equal to Brihaspati in power."
